03/12/13: Feed facility planned in New Zealand; largest sturgeon breeding farm; first live fish shipment

A brand new, high-tech aquaculture feed production facility could be operating in Blenheim, Marlborough, New Zealand by 2015. 

Fish feed company Big Nutrition and Blenheim based firm Aquaculture Direct plan to establish an aquatic feed mill in the Marlborough district.
 
Once complete, the mill will be the newest and most advanced aquatic feed plant in the South Pacific, and the only one in New Zealand.

The largest sturgeon breeding farm in the Caspian Sea will be established in the Mazandaran province, Iran.
 
According to the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA), Hassan Habibnejad, director general of the province's Fisheries Department said the farm, which is capable of producing 7 tons of caviar and 250 tons of fish per year, will be built in on an area spanning 5 hectares.

Australian based transport equipment manufacturer FishPac Pty Ltd has managed to perform the first ever fully successful live shipment using the world’s only approved live fish transport system sustained by oxygen.
 
The shipment, which transported 400-900 gram greenlip abalone specimens from Melbourne, Australia to Los Angeles, USA arrived with zero mortality, representing a 30 per cent mortality reduction compared to any other transportation system previously used.
