15/08/2016: Large carp discovered in West Australian waterways

Giant goldfish, "the size of footballs" have been travelling hundreds of kilometres annually throughout Western Australian waterways, according to a recent article written by James Mooney of WA today.

Researchers from Murdoch University in Perth, Australia have said that the discovery has major implications in regards to controlling the species in South-Western WA. Less than two years ago it was revealed that giant carp were being caught in suburban drains and lakes.

Dr Stephen Beatty and researchers from the Centre of Fish and Fisheries used strategically placed acoustic receivers to examine the movement patterns of an introduced goldfish population in the Vasse River.
