09/05/2018: Global expertise to feature at Offshore Mariculture Asia 2018

European, Asian, North and South American aquaculture representatives to share experience.

The first day of Offshore Mariculture Asia will feature case studies and presentations from high level speakers representing key industry bodies from across the globe.
  


Offering the opportunity to share their international aquaculture experience, speakers include:
- Bjorn Myrseth - President of the European Aquaculture Society
- Guillaume Drillet - President of the World Aquaculture Society Asian Pacific Chapter
- Conference chairman Lukas Manomaitis of the US Soybean Export Council
- Alessandro Lovatelli - Regional Fisheries and Aquaculture Officer of the FAO

Sessions will begin on the 15th May with an exploration of the early stages of the fish farming process, including site selection, moving from nearshore to offshore and choosing the right species to farm.

Speakers hail from industry leading companies based in Panama, Italy, Vietnam and Singapore, including Erik Vis, Director of Farming Operations - Open Blue, Niels Svennevig - Independent Aquaculture Advisor, Darko Lisac, Co-Founder & CEO - Refa Med and Joep Kleine Staarman, owner of Barramundi Asia.

The second conference day will culminate in presentations on processes further along the production chain including marketing, investment, technology and feed section. PechaKucha style product presentations will also take place; welcoming six speakers for short, 20 slide presentations offering a quick and precise platform for information sharing.

Marianne Rasmussen-Coulling, Events Director, Mercator Media, organiser of the conference, added, “The range of speakers in this year’s programme reflects the broad variety of topics being covered. We look forward to welcoming individuals and companies who offer, successful long term histories in the aquaculture industry, many of whom have been instrumental in the setup of offshore operations in their respective countries.”

The final day of the conference, 17 May, offers delegates a technical visit to an established functioning fish farm and hatchery, followed by a question and answer session with the farm managers. The first visit will be hosted by Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore, with Barramundi Asia hosting the farm tour. Delegates can choose from their choice of tour.
